Inspiring and entertaining audiences since 1976, SCS Musicals is dedicated to promoting amateur, artistic talent and enrich the cultural life of the community through musical theatre and choral productions.

SCS Musicals mounts two Broadway style musicals per year and occasionally include choral concert performances to honour our beginnings as a 'Choral Society'.

We place great pride in being able to provide performance opportunities for local talent. We are proud to be a true community theatre organization, run by a dedicated volunteer board of directors, staging performances to highlight the talents of actors, singers and directors, some with years of professional experience under their belts.  SCS Musicals welcomes YOU to join our active performing arts group as a participant onstage or behind the scenes.

In The Beginning...

In the early 1970's, Town Hall 1873 was destined for destruction. Grace Hastings, a respected music educator, choral director and local arts/music 'activist',  was one of a group of concerned citizens who successfully worked together to save Town Hall 1873.

During restoration of the Town Hall in 1971, tickets and programs from a 1913 performance of H.M.S. Pinafore were unearthed and the Town Hall Board of Directors decided to stage this musical once again as a tribute. This was the first performance by our group -- staged in 1976.

Mrs. Hastings, a member of the Town Hall board at the time, retired music teacher and consultant with the Ontario County Board of Education, was their obvious choice for director. The Town Hall was packed to the rafters for every performance with people being turned away at the door. It was Grace's love of music and dedication which was at the core of the newly formed Scugog Choral Society.  It has been only in recent years that the group has adopted the shortened and updated SCS Musicals moniker, but always cherish our beginnings as a community choral group of friends.

"So much fun. So many laughs. So much accomplished. So many beautiful sounds." --Grace HastingsFounder of Scugog Choral Society, My Journey to the Millennium

Since 1976, SCS Musicals/Scugog Choral Society has performed over 80 concerts and musical theatre productions on the stage exclusively at Town Hall 1873 Theatre, a beautiful historical venue that we are proud to call home!
